What was new last summer?
WRITING THE NOVEL camp, focused on longer form writing, is now for kids 12-16.

Carolyn offered a brand new camp:
Sci-Fi/Dystopian/Horror: Shared Universe Writing for kids 10-15

Carolyn again offered GRAPHIC NOVEL camp for kids 8-12.
We were thrilled to welcome back
comedy writer Wendi Aarons for TWO COMEDY WRITING CAMPS
and poet Laurie Filipelli for POETRY CAMP.
Every camper was published in a book at the end of the summer,
as well as being published on the blog.

Our goals for each camp are:

  • to introduce campers to the work of important authors

  • to inspire them to write stories

  • to stretch their imaginations

  • to boost confidence

  • to expand a sense of community by sharing work

  • to look at the world through another's point of view

FEEDBACK FROM PARENTS AND CAMPERS
"Carolyn is so good at pushing the comfort zone of the kids, and it just ignites their imaginations. When they realize they can tear down boundaries, write together, write alone, etc., they just take off like rocket ships. Really a great class."
                         Blaine M. (parent on Sawyer.com)

"Carolyn's camp has been a standout experience for our kid. She was challenged, encouraged, found great rapport with her campmates, and felt proud of what she crafted. We will definitely do more of Carolyn's camps!”
                                                             Jenn K. (parent on Yelp)

"Carolyn was able to extract the inner genius in her students and I enjoyed hearing their imaginations soar through her guidance.  I highly recommend Carolyn and the Girls with Pens summer camp (insert applause)!!”
                                                            Jennifer J. (parent on Yelp)

"My daughter was a little apprehensive before camp started but after the first session she was thereafter very excited to attend camp each day and to share her work with her friends and family each night when she got home. She had so much fun but also found that camp helped her build her confidence in not just her writing but also in her creativity and her ability to generate new ideas. She is already looking forward to working with Carolyn again. Thank you so much!!!”
